Kenosis means "self-emptying." Though Christ was in very nature God, He emptied Himself and took the form of a servant (Philippians 2:6-7). The emptied life takes three steps — emptying yourself, denying yourself, and carrying your own cross. Clenched hands can receive nothing. Like Pastor Son Yang-won who embraced leprosy patients, and Father Damien who prayed to become one with the sick of Molokai, God fills the place we lay down. "He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose" (Jim Elliot). God highly exalts the one who humbles himself (Philippians 2:9).
